School Security in Texas & the United States

  • Texas is ranked in the bottom 1/3 of the US for public school funding (38th). The security related funds provided by the Federal and State government combined, per Texas school per year, is sadly only about 10% of what it costs to give a high school football team a new set of pads.
  • The US has had 57 times as many school shootings as all other major industrialized nations combined. There has been, on average, one school shooting every week so far this year.
  • Almost 200,000 students have been exposed to gun violence at school since 1999.
  • There is no approved uniform standard for effective and critical school security in Texas or the United States.
  • There have been 25 school shootings in Texas to date. It’s not a matter of ‘if’ an attack on Texas schools will happen again, it’s a matter of ‘when’.
  • You can help stop it from happening again by donating to SSI today.

“As a country, we have been through this too many times […..] can we honestly say that we’re doing enough to keep our children, all of them, safe from harm?”

-President Barack Obama, 2012
